A Danish western – The Salvation (2014)

Plot:

In 1870s America, a peaceful American settler kills his family’s murderer which unleashes the fury of a notorious gang leader. His cowardly fellow townspeople then betray him, forcing him to hunt down the outlaws alone.

The Good:

Casted well, with one exception (why do you need E.Cantona in this film!).

Really nice paced, wouldn’t hurt if the movie would be a bit longer than 90 minutes.

Editing is on a good level.

Music spaghetti western style.

Action sequences well constructed.

Photographed nicely, few unconventional shots, few really well know shots (S. Leone shots?)

Great locations (despite post-production manipulation); shot in Africa

The Bad:

Not much to complain about,

missed long-shots a bit (Italian western twisted my brain)

night scenes are a bit distracting ( watching them made me think if they shot them during the day…)

The Ugly

CGI – some cgi implementation choices could be skipped (fire and smoke  for instance), some were unavoidable (burning man), some seem weird (the canyons/ landscape)
